Teaching and Related Training
Since we consider teaching to be an integral part of a graduate education, our students assist in teaching undergraduates. Once a year for two years, starting in the spring of the first year, our graduate students teach a laboratory course on neurobiology and behavior. Before teaching a lab section of their own, they are taught the particulars of each lab exercise, and broader aspects of effective teaching, by committees of more advanced students and by a specially trained TA coordinator. Committee members also assist with lab sections, whether the student teaching the section is new or experienced. Graduate students serve on these training and assistance committees for four years. In addition to their lab teaching and committee service, our graduate students assist faculty who are teaching large lecture courses. They assist with two or three of these courses each of their first two years. |
