Research Networks

Department faculty are associated with three major research institutes and several campus-wide research groups.

Research Institutes
Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, directed by Dr. Michael Rugg, is dedicated to a multidisciplinary investigation of the brain mechanisms responsible for learning and memory.

Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders, directed by Dr. Frank LaFerla, uses basic science and clinical approaches to study dementia, particularly Alzheimer's Disease.

Reeve-Irvine Research Center, directed by Dr. Oswald Steward, studies spinal cord injuries and diseases that cause paralysis or other loss of neurologic function, with the goal of finding a cure.

Meetings and Seminars

The Department, research institutes and groups host international conferences, workshops, and seminars.

The Department also sponsors Neuroblitz, a weekly seminar series for graduate students and post-docs to present their research, and Neurobeer, a quarterly social gathering for students, post-docs and faculty.

The annual UCI Neuroscience Symposium is a day-long gathering for neuroscientists across campus.
