MARCH 2023

Dear Neurobiology & Behavior Community,

It is a pleasure to announce the first issue of our Neurobio Newsletter! The purpose of this newsletter is to highlight recent achievements of our NBB community, new updates in the Department of Neurobiology & Behavior, and get to know each other just a bit better. We will also include information about upcoming seminars and events, and other important updates and deadlines.

I would like to officially welcome Joann Lozano to the NBB staff! Joann has been working with us for about half a year, and has just accepted the position of Graduate Program Coordinator. You can see a brief description below. We are thrilled because we have quickly developed an amazing team with Tina Dominguez, Maggie Davis, and Joann Lozano. They are working hard to redesign and redefine the traditional staff positions in NBB, which is already yielding wonderful benefits. Swing by to say hello!

Lastly, I am happy to announce that I have been renewed as Chair of NBB. It has been a privilege to serve as Chair over the past 9 years (I began January of 2014). I believe that one of the most important aspects of our work is the training and mentorship of new scientists regardless of where they find their fit in the world. In the next term as Chair, I would like to continue our efforts in adapting to changing times and developing the absolute best research and teaching missions possible. That can only happen when all of us work towards a community and culture with shared values, respect, and compassion. I love working here. I love working with you all. I will do everything I can as Chair to try and ensure that you do too.

Please share your feedback and stories!

Warm Regards,

Marcelo A. Wood, Ph.D.
Chair of Department of Neurobiology and Behavior
UCI School of Biological Sciences

Stop by the Department and welcome her as she settles into this new role!

NBB Reference Sheet

We have put together an NBB Reference Sheet that will hopefully give each of you some guidance on who you can reach out to within the Department or BioSci for all your questions and needs. Please give us your feedback as we continue to improve the Department and try to make things easier and better for each of you. We want to hear from you.
