“Discovering ‘druggable’ targets against addiction”
Abstract: Addiction is a chronic relapsing brain disorder. My ultimate research goal is to identify ‘druggable’ targets for developing anti-addiction medication to counter relapse across drug addiction and alcoholism, as well as obesity and eating disorders as putative “food addiction”. In this presentation, I will discuss my lab’s two distinct approaches, one focusing on brain’s unwanted ability to promote relapse and the other focusing on brain’s natural ability to suppress relapse, with therapeutic goals to attenuate and facilitate such pro-relapse and anti-relapse brain mechanisms.
