Lavinia Meijer

Acclaimed Harpist and Sony Classical Recording Artist

Lavinia Meijer is one of the greatest living harpists who is boldly redefining the possibilities of the harp through her transcriptions and performances of works from contemporary composers such as Phillip Glass and her own compositions. In addition, Lavinia has a keen interest and passion for connecting the arts and the sciences, and furthering our understanding of how music can promote mental health and wellbeing. For example, Lavinia has participated in research study out of Leiden University that monitored various physiological measures as she performed, and found similarities in her measures to those of a trained sprinter. Moreover, her music has become a way of therapy for her and her audience. This intimate event will include live performance by Lavinia and a discussion moderated by Neurobiology & Behavior faculty member John Guzowski. This discussion will highlight the impact of music as a vital daily practice for supporting mental health, managing stress, increasing human connection, and supporting resiliency. READ MORE
